Teen Dating Violence - Resources

Awareness & Prevention Materials

Teen Dating Violence Awareness & Prevention Toolkit - First distributed in Texas in 2006, this toolkit contains posters, warning signs, fact sheets, suggestions for classroom activities, videos, brochures and wallet cards as resources for schools and communities to help observe National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week, February 4-8, 2008. The toolkit includes materials from the American Bar Association, Centers for Disease Control and Liz Claiborne, along with some Texas-specific materials.

In order to receive a toolkit, schools must register a team consisting of a school administrator, school counselor, teacher and community member. We strongly urge schools to contact local rape crisis centers to fill the community member position on the team, and rape crisis centers to contact local schools to see if they are interested in receiving a free toolkit. Additionally, TAASA believes it is crucial that youth be involved in leadership roles in any effort to end sexual violence and dating violence. To receive the toolkit, the school’s team must register to attend one of two free trainings on how to use the toolkits in Dallas on November 9, 2007, or through all 20 Educational Service Centers on November 12, 2007. To register for your toolkit and toolkit training, visit www.healthyteendating.org. If you would like to download much of the materials from last year’s toolkit, go to www.governor.state.tx.us/divisions/women/work/violence.

Green Ribbon Week - Green Ribbon Week, an important part of Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month, provides communities with an opportunity to raise awareness about sexual violence on school campuses. Green Ribbon Week will be held March 31 - April 4, 2008. TAASA distributes a guidebook annually filled with ideas for activities and information on engaging your community and the media in efforts to address sexual violence among youth. The 2008 Green Ribbon Week Guidebook will be distributed in January or you may download the 2007 guidebook here.

Choose Respect - Choose Respect is the project of the CDC focused on supplementing prevention efforts for dating violence. The website includes a downloadable version of a teen dating violence video, as well as a teacher’s guide used to generate discussion about the video and much more.
