Lisa Luna, Training Specialist
Lisa is one of TAASA’s training specialists. She is a Licensed Baccalaureate Social Worker, a certified criminal justice specialist with the National Association of Forensic Counselors and a TCLEOSE certified instructor. Lisa began her professional career as a Quartermaster Officer in the U.S. Army. Since completing her enlistment, she has held positions as a victim witness counselor for the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney in Hawaii, outreach counselor for The House of Ruth in Alabama, psychiatric social worker in a prison, lead caseworker for at-risk youth for Harmony Family Services and youth education coordinator for First Step, Inc. in Wichita Falls, Texas. Since coming to TAASA in 1999, Lisa developed and coordinated the nationally-recognized Students Taking Action for Respect (STAR) program for three years. Since returning to her original position of training specialist, Lisa has provided hundreds of trainings on victimization issues across Texas, as well as several other states. Lisa is a member of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Safe Prison Advisory Counsel, a guest instructor for the Parole Officer In-service Academy, a guest instructor for Texas Tech University, School of Forensic Studies and has testified at several state and national hearings on the issue of prison rape.
