Prevention Team
The Prevention team at TAASA is dedicated to addressing the root causes of sexual violence by connecting and supporting the diverse communities, and organizations engaged in the movement to end sexual violence in Texas.
Texas Approach to Primary Prevention
Primary Prevention initiatives are deliberate about uprooting attitudes, behaviors, and social norms that create a culture in which sexual violence is more likely to occur. We encourage communities to go beyond risk reduction and awareness raising and move towards primary prevention efforts. Texas’ approach to Primary Prevention fosters empathy and connectedness in communities and supports efforts to promote positive social change that create communities where all people are valued and celebrated.
Our Work
We provide training for prevention programs at rape crisis centers state-wide, offer one-on-one support to prevention workers, and develop prevention-focused resources to enrich the field of primary prevention initiatives in Texas. To connect with the prevention team email us at prevention@taasa.org.
Our reach to support prevention efforts in Texas is tailored to grant requirements and state-guided primary prevention programming. We approach the scope of prevention by supporting rape crisis centers and dual center agencies that work to end sexual violence through education and outreach.
The scope of prevention work is to provide technical assistance for anyone doing education and outreach around sexual violence at local rape crisis centers and dual agencies across the state. We work to increase the capacity of staff to develop, implement, and evaluate effective prevention programs.

TAASA’s Prevention Team has developed a sexual violence primary prevention curriculum that is intended to be used primarily with high school-aged youth, but that can be adapted for use with middle school and college-aged youth. The curriculum is based on both sound prevention theory and experience from implementing effective prevention programming.
